Considered one of the finest regional railroad museums in the country, it
includes five steam locomotives and several restored coaches and freight
cars. Most featured equipment is from the Comstock Era's Virginia & Truckee
Railroad, America's richest and most famous short line.

Located in the historic former Carson City Civic Auditorium which was built in 1939, The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada opened in 1994. The museum is a play-based learning environment.
Children can play and learn in the grocery store or have pretend lunch in the Chinese restaurant.
In the green screen room, children get a taste of what being a weatherman on TV is like or they can climb the revolving rock wall.
They can spend time nursing patients back to health in the hospital room or they can deposit your treasures in the safe deposit boxes in the bank.
They can learn about the dinosaurs of old or pan for gems and minerals in the mining sluice. There are many exhibits and new ones always in the works.

An outstanding example of Gothic Revival architecture, believed to have been shipped from New England to San Francisco, then transported here in 1873 by
V & T flat car. Plans to raze it drew a public outcry fierce enough to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for refurbishment.

Natural history, agricultural and Native American exhibits, focusing on
the Washo tribe who spent winters in the Carson Valley. The Cultural Center
also housed a school from 1916-1985.
Dake Hawkins House

Built in the early 1870's, this gothic Victorian home is considered one of
the oldest in Nevada. Vintage boxing and celebrity memorabilia also on
display.
Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park

The Dangberg Home Ranch was once the center of operations for a 48,000-acre
ranch, and is now a Nevada State Park. Guided tours lead visitors through
the ranch house and other buildings, built between 1857 and 1920, that are
full of 19th and 20th century artifacts. Open mid-April through mid-December,
with tours conducted Wednesday through Sunday by advance reservation only.

Gift Shop
The original Douglas County Courthouse from 1865 to 1916, which later served
as the Genoa Schoolhouse. Today it features rotating exhibits, Washo Indian

Picnic Area
A trading post established during the California Gold Rush where travelers
rested and purchased supplies before tackling the Sierra Nevada. The first
permanent settlement in Nevada was later renamed Genoa. Museum and stockade
exhibits.

Originally organized in the 1860's, Liberty Engine Company No. 1 is still an
operating volunteer fire fighting unit. Vintage photographs, uniforms, tools

The Castle

The last remaining original mansion (not restored) with authentic
furnishings imported from Europe in 1868. Original paint, crystal

Carrara marble fireplaces, and steel engravings from 1852.
