MOTOR CAR RIDES AT THE NEVADA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM
Take a ride back into history. Ride the motor car built by the Edwards Motor Car Company of Sanford, NC. that ran from 1926 to 1947 as the Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend No. 401 motor car. It shuttled people and supplies 43 miles between the Ajo copper mine and Gila Bend, AZ for a total of 783,000 miles in 17 years of service. Now it's your turn to travel in this historic car. Buy your tickets at the Wabuska Station of the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Cash only, no credit cards, please. The motor car runs from 10am to 4pm, every half hour or so. FREE CONCERTS AT LEGISLATIVE PLAZA-CAPITOL AMPHITHEATER
The Jazz! Carson City 2010 music festival opens Sunday afternoon, with three concerts at the Legislative Plaza/Capitol Amphitheater. Admission is free, and parking at the garage on Stewart and Fifth Streets also is free. Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy the music! The STRAZZ ensemble will get your toes tapping with an hour of jazz and fiddle tunes played by a dozen of northern Nevada's top strings students beginning at 4:00 p.m. Two Plus, featuring Tom Styker, jazz harmonica, and Dan Lancaster, sax, clarinet, and flute, will be joined by David Bugli, keyboard, Chuck DeLaura, bass, and Herbie Weihskopf, drums, for an hour of traditional improvisational jazz. Top off the afternoon with the inimitable humor and musicianship of "Speedy" Garfin and the Garfin Gathering, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Garfin Gathering musicians are "Speedy" Garfin, sax, clarinet, flute, conga drums, and vocals; Kerry Shacklett, keyboard; George Stigliano, drums; and Jakki Ford, vocals & choreography. BIG BAND JAZZ UNDER THE STARS

HISTORY OF THE CARSON CITY MINT
From 1870 - 1893 the Carson City Mint produced close to 50 million dollars in both gold and silver coins, stamped with the famous CC mint mark. Bob Nylen will also discuss the role women workers played at the mint, as well as show images of the unique and rare coins produced right here in our own hometown. 10am. 25TH ANNUAL BOWERS MANSION BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
The 25th Annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival takes place the weekend of Aug 13-15. The weekend opens at 7:00pm on Friday, August 13th with a free open-air concert at the Davis Creek Park Amphitheater. The main Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival takes place from 9:30am – 6pm on Saturday, August 14th on the Bowers Mansion grounds, gate opens at 9am, Cost $15 adults, $3 kids 2-12. Seven bluegrass bands will perform. Food and craft vendors on site. Coolers/picnic baskets welcome (no glass containers). Sunday’s entertainment is at Davis Creek Amphitheater at 10AM, a live, free Gospel Show. For more info: www.bowersbluegrassfestival.org.

Carson City Historical Society Press Release Contact: Sue Ballew at 220-6278 CARSON CITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS ICE CREAM SOCIAL Come join the fun on a cool summer evening when the Carson City Historical Society hosts their annual Ice Cream Social. Special ice cream and cookies will be available for $4.00 per person -- and children attending will be able to build their own birdhouse courtesy of Jim DeMagistris of Woodworking Specialties. The evening will be filled with music as David Bugli's "Millennium Bugs" will be playing during the event. The Ice Cream Social will be held Saturday, August 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson, Carson City. The Carson City Historical Society is a nonprofit organization. The proceeds from the event benefit the Carson City Historical Society "Carriage House Project."

Take a ride on actual Virginia & Truckee equipment. The Nevada State Railroad Museum and steam crew invite you and your family to ride the historic train pulled by Virginia & Truckee Engine #25. Handicapped accessible, the train departs every 40 minutes from 10am to 4pm. Buy your tickets and board train at the Wabuska Depot at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
